Assistant Town Clerk – Job Vacancy

Warwick Town Council are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and reliable professional person to provide administration and clerical support to the Town Clerk and her friendly team, to ensure the efficient operation of the Town Council.

The post holder will support the Town Clerk in ensuring the smooth running of the council’s financial administration and corporate governance and oversee the operational management of the events team.

This includes supporting the council in undertaking the work set out in its business plan, with a particular focus on developing and implementing statutory policies and processes, improving governance and risk management and day-to-day operational management matters.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and experience in a wide range of personnel processes are essential to take the lead on day-to-day human resources management and directly managing a small team of staff.

The appointment is full time – 37 hours per week and the salary will be as per the national recommended salary scale for clerks (depending upon experience) There will be some evening and weekend working.

Principal Duties will include:

  • Support the Town Clerk in ensuring best practice is always maintained including reviews of policy, procedures, Standing financial Regulations etc.
  • Be responsible for preparing Town Council, Committee, Sub Committee and working group agendas, reports and documents liaising with different individuals, to be signed off by the Town Clerk.
  • Clerk meetings of the Town Council in the absence of the Town Clerk and be responsible for Clerking other meetings as directed by the Town Clerk.

Essential skills

  • Competent Microsoft word and excel experience
  • Good communicator
  • Have experience of all aspects of administration in a local government or related work setting
  • Management experience.

Pay and Conditions

  • The candidate will be office based.
  • Salary will be paid at NJC Scale LC2 scale points 23 (£28,226), starting point depending upon experience, CiLCA qualification and transferable skills.
  • The role is subject to a 6-month probation period.
